+About me
"We always felt you were working with us and listened to our thoughts"

My aim is to produce thoughtfully designed gardens with an emphasis on quality and practicality. My objective is to create gardens which add a quiet beauty to your home. Through a friendly and professional service tailored to your individual needs, I endeavour to create an outdoor space which you will love for years to come.
Following a successful career in investment management, I decided to pursue my lifelong passion for plants and retrained at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh gaining a Diploma in Garden Design with Distinction. I regularly attend professional development courses which ensure I am at the cutting edge of industry knowledge. I am a member of the Society of Garden Designers - the industry professional body.
I can produce designs for a variety of gardens styles from small city courtyards to large walled gardens, community gardens to public spaces. I love the challenge of designing a new garden and pride myself on listening carefully to a client's requirements and translating these into a beautiful design.
I have full Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance.
Garden Design
I will undertake a detailed brief at the initial meeting to ensure that your requirements are properly understood. I will then carry out a site survey to provide a blue print of the site to be developed. From there I will produce two different concept designs for your consideration. Once you have decided on your chosen design I will then draw up a more detailed masterplan, making any changes from the concept plan as necessary and this will be the final design from which your garden will be built. I can also produce detailed construction drawings for the more complex gardens and garden features.
Planting and Planting Plans
A planting plan really brings a garden to life! I create detailed planting plans according to your requirements, likes and dislikes, soil type, climate and aspect of your house. This ensures that the right plants are being planted in the right place. This includes species, number and size of plants. I can source high quality plants from specialist nurseries and lay out and plant these for you, if required. I can also produce a maintenance schedule so that your plants get the best possible start.

Here are a sample of some of the projects I have been working on recently
Trinity
This north facing garden in Trinity was a building site after a recent house extension. The clients wanted a courtyard for sitting out in, full of bamboos, ferns and grasses. This was achieved by a careful palette of shade loving plants chosen for their differing leaf colours and textures and evergreen interest. Deep borders planted with white flowers and silver foliage catch the eye and add sparkle. Exotic looking architectural plants, in this case a tree fern (Dicksonia antartica) and the castor oil fig (Fatsia japonica) are very happy in shade and add the wow factor.

Murrayfield
The clients of this Murrayfield new build house were looking for a family garden which catered for both entertaining and play. They wanted a large area of lawn for children (and adults!) to play ball games, plants that would survive many a child trampling through them, a sunken trampoline which wouldn't detract from the view of the garden and also a large entertaining area for family and friends. A large, artificial turf lawn was complemented by a sunken patio, complete with fire pit and bbq area in timber and sandstone which worked well with the contemporary look of the new house. Tall borders filled with pretty planting in pastel colours surrounds the seating area providing a transparent screen to the lawn. Subtle lighting and lots of built in bench seating creates an informal but stylish outdoor entertaining space which catches the evening sun.

Trinity courtyard
This client wanted help with choosing low maintenance plants for their courtyard garden which were to be planted up in raised planters and were to look good all year round, providing colour, interest and a lush, slightly tropical feel to their outdoor dining area here in Edinburgh!
